Kim Nicholas

Kim Nichols

Trumpet and Flugelhorn
Kim is Circus of Wolves newest member and brings a wealth of musical experience to the band and to our songs. On the music scene since 1980, he is based in the Hudson Valley but his influence is far reaching. Kim has been a free-lance musician working in many different capacities: as a backing show player, arranger, composer and producer.
From early childhood, Kim was musically influenced by his gifted Grandmother. This led to picking up the trumpet at age 8. He then proceeded with private studies in both trumpet and piano. Kim went on to study at Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY, the Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory. Along with performance studies, he had the good fortune to study arranging with teacher and jazz trumpeter Herb Pomeroy and orchestration with composer, conductor, arranger Michael Gibbs. Kim”s trumpet heroes are Al Hirt, Clark Terry and Chet Baker.
Kim has worked with noted artists including Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, The Temptations, Donna Summer and The Spinners among others. He has composed media musical underscores for household brand names like Cadillac, Bridgestone, Benjamin Moore and Gold’s Gym. He was also an original member of The Big Smoothies: one of the Northeast’s most celebrated corporate performance groups.
Kim embraces the collaborative culture of Circus of Wolves and the opportunity to apply his musical sensibility to the ongoing evolution of the music.
